Figure Skating at Manchester Ice and Event Centre
Skaters of the McCall Figure Skating Club will present a Holiday Ice Show on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 29-30, at Manchester Ice and Event Centre in downtown McCall.
The evenings will feature a recital staring local McCall figure skaters and group lesson participants. Also featured will be Michael Villarreal, a two-time medalist at the U.S. National Championships.
About 50 performers as young as age 2 will be featured. Santa Claus is also expected to make a post-holiday appearance.
Tickets cost $12 for ages 13 and older and $8 for youths ages 6 to 12, while youths age 5 and younger will be admitted free.
Advance tickets will go on sale on Wednesday at Albertsons in McCall and at the ice rink after 1 p.m. daily.

Santa Claus is Coming . . .
Santa Claus to visit Cascade American Legion Post on Sunday
Santa Claus will arrive at the American Legion Post 60 in Cascade on 12/18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Children will be treated to hot chocolate and cookies, their picture will be taken with Santa, and receive a candy-filled stocking.
Donations of new unwrapped toys for ages infant to 14 can be dropped off at Watkins Pharmacy, D9, Howdy’s, The Dollar Store, Umpqua Bank, Ace Hardware or The American Legion in Cascade.
The event is free and sponsored by the American Legion in Cascade.

Concert: John Wayne & The Pain in McCall
Electronic reggae-dub jam band innovators Jon Wayne and The Pain will play at Foresters Club in downtown McCall, on Monday, Dec. 5. The music will start at 7 p.m. Dec. 5, and only those age 21 and older will be admitted. The performance is sponsored by the McCall Folklore Society and is a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, which stages the Summer Music Festival at Roseberry each July.

Pay it Forward!
Local organizations will benefit from a Pay It Forward event to be staged by Meadows Valley School students on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 at the school and will feature several student-run sales, including baked goods, bird houses, beverages, games, to benefit P&IN Railroad Depot, Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary, New Meadows Senior Citizen Center, and MCPAWS Regional Animal Shelter in McCall.

Thanksgiving Day dinner n Cascade
The American Legion Post 60 in Cascade invites the community to its free Thanksgiving dinner for dining and holiday cheer. The annual meal will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the American Legion on Main and Mill streets. The traditional fare will include turkey, ham and all the trimmings. Homemade pies and desserts will be provided buy members of the post’s auxiliary and local churches.

Have a Roseberry Christmas
Twinkling Christmas lights, bonfires, hot drinks, delicious food, artisans and antiques are some of the things visitor can expect to find at Roseberry’s first annual outdoor Christmas Market on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10.
Hours will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day at Historic Roseberry, located on East Roseberry Road one mile east of Donnelly. The market will be modeled in the style of open-air European Christmas markets and will be located outside behind The Barn and inside the barn and Johnson cabin. A plaza with tables, bonfires, and a Christmas tree will provide the setting for enjoying good food, drink, and music.

Benefit fundraiser set Sept. 24
A benefit fundraiser has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24, in McCall for a former McCall resident who has been diagnosed with ALS.
Dylan Darling, 36, of Bend, Ore., was diagnosed in February with the neurodegenerative disease and faces a long period of treatments and coping with it effects.
The fundraiser will be held between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Little Ski Hill lodge west of McCall. The Bottom Line Band will play, there will be a silent auction and raffle tickets will be sold for valuable prizes.
The fundraiser is being organized by Mark and Rebecca Darling of McCall. Mark Darling is Dylan’s father.
Donations for the auction can be dropped off to Pat Dumont at the McCall Fire & EMS station at 201 Deinhard Lane or call Rebecca Darling 315-0962 to arrange pickup.
Donations can be made to the Dylan Darling Fund at the McCall branch of Idaho First Bank.

Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary
On Saturday, Sept. 24, Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary will open its ground to a once-a-year look at the rehabilitation facilities and some of the animals being cared for until they are ready for release back to the wild.
The open house will be held between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sept. 24 with refreshments served by the river.
Participants will meet the Sanctuary’s educational birds, including Indy, a peregrine falcon, and Nugget, a western screech owl. Other animals may be visible from a distance in their natural habitat enclosures.
Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary is located on Lick Creek Road seven miles east of McCall. The sanctuary’s driveway is located where the pavement ends.

Ice Cream Social!
There will be much more than just ice cream on hand at the Roseberry Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social to be held on September 3.
The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. at the historic Roseberry town site one mile east of Donnelly on Roseberry Road. Ice cream, hot dogs, lemonade and drinks, Finn Bread and pastries will be served all afternoon.
Featured will be antique engines and equipment demonstrations, an antique and classic car show, a petting zoo, a silent auction, and hay rides.

Artisans’ Faire Aug. 6
Arrowhead RV Park in Cascade will hold its 23rd annual Artisans’ Faire on Saturday, Aug. 6, featuring works by park guests and instructors.
The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the patio at the park at 955 S. Main St., adjacent to the Idaho 55 south bridge in town.
Hand-crafted items include wood carvings, home decor items, paintings and drawings, cards, hand-painted scarves and beaded jewelry.

31st Fosdick golf tourney, dinner, to be held July 30-31
The 31st annual “Fosdick” Meadows Valley Benefit Golf Tournament event begins on Thursday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m., with the Fosdick/Simonson Recognition Award at the Osprey pool building at MeadowCreek Golf Resort. The award will be presented to John and Roberta Fields for their life-long support for Meadows Valley.
The Saturday celebration starts at 5 p.m. with a social hour and a community dinner at 6 p.m. at The Intersection BBQ Bar & Grill in New Meadows with auctions and games. The Alpine Playhouse in McCall will present Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in July in its first performance at Ponderosa State Park in 20 years.
The showings will take place on Thursday through Saturday, July 21-23, and Wednesday through Friday, July 27-29. Performances start at 7 p.m. at the park amphitheater.
The play includes 26 local actors and features Amy Rush as fairy queen Titania, Greg Mcfadden as King Oberon and Wavey Tuck as Puck.
Also starring are David Garrison, Lindsey Harris, Audrey Linville, Will Minshall and Jim Bates as the lovers and Nate Thrash as Bottom.
Advance tickets cost $8 will be sold at McCall Drug starting on Monday. No refunds will be offered if a performance is cancelled due to weather. Tickets also will be sold at the amphitheater each night starting at 6:30 p.m. Those entering the park in cars will be required to pay a $5 park entry fee.

Astronaut at McCall Airport
Retired NASA astronaut Steve Swanson will speak as part of an open house at the McCall Airport on Saturday, July 16. The free event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Swanson, now at Boise State University, will speak at 11 a.m. on his 2014 mission to the International Space Station.

Ski Bum Scramble
The sixth annual Ski Bum Scramble, to benefit the athletes of the McCall Winter Sports Club, will be held Saturday July 9 at Jug Mountain Ranch Golf Course.
The nine-hole scramble is perfect for golfers of all abilities. Fun prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to pin, highest score and lowest score and, new this year, Best Dressed.
Mulligans will also be on sale and a mountain bike shuttle will be available for non-golfers. A country smokehouse barbecue, youth mini-golf contest and raffle prizes will round out the fun. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. with a 5 p.m. start for the golf tournament. The youth tourney starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Adult Airband & Drag Show
Better Neighborhoods will sponsor the 13th annual Adult Airband and Drag Show on Saturday July 9 in two shows, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., at the Alpine Playhouse in McCall.
The contest, which offers over $800 in cash prizes, is open to any adults over age 17.
Contestants are judged on the quality of their lip-syncing, choreography, and the overall design of their performance. The Drag Show prize goes to the most realistic depiction of the opposite sex.
“People come from all over to compete in this evening of celebrating the diversity and greatness of America,” Molly Lukes of Better Neighborhoods said. “There is no better way to entertain ourselves than to be ourselves – all of our selves.” Tickets for adults only cost $7 and will be sold at the door starting one-half hour before each show.

Kaleidoscope children’s festival
The McCall Arts and Humanities Council will host its 18th annual Kaleidoscope festival on Saturday, June 25. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine, on the lawn at the Central Idaho Historical Museum on the corner of West Lake Street (Idaho 55) and State Street near St. Luke’s McCall. Cascade Spring Craft Fair
The Cascade Community Center will hold its Spring Craft Fair on June 18 at the Cascade Community Church. The event will include a baked food sale and lunch fund-raiser. The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, located at 109 W. Pine St., to eat, shop and visit. A tea party fund-raiser is on the way at the New Meadows Community Senior Center on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. The event will honor seniors over age 90 and include a raffle for a quilted hanging, a silent auction and entertainment by the Boise barber shop quartet “The Fourth Dimensions.” The cost is $8 and the deadline for reservations and payment is Wednesday. Carnival Schedule of Events
The McCall Winter Carnival is a celebration of all things winter! Inspired by the Payette Lake Winter Games, it was first held in 1924 when a train from Boise brought 248 visitors to McCall, Idaho. The official McCall Winter Carnival started in the 1960s and over the years, the Carnival has grown into an iconic Idaho event bringing more than 60,000 people to McCall each year! Legends on Ice
Music will be in the air at the Winter Carnival Ice Show on February 6 and 7 at Manchester Ice & Event Centre in McCall. “Musical Legends” is the theme for the figure skating show each evening at 7:30 p.m. The headliner will be Jeremy Abbott, a four-time U.S. champion and Olympic bronze medalist. The Payette Children’s Forest’s Winter Adventure Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10, is a way for children to learn about the winter outdoors and have a ball -- with free Nordic ski and snowshoe day at Ponderosa State Park on Saturday, Jan. 9; and Snow exploration for all ages starts up from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Jan. 10, at the Brundage Mountain Resort lodge. There will be S’mores with Smokey Bear, a snow fort, winter art, helmet safety and interacting with Junior Snow Rangers.
